Jelenia Struga MEDICAL SPA – the WONDERful ISLAND of the Karkonosze is located in a secluded valley with crystal-clear air, surrounded by dense forest, amidst wild nature filled with the sound of streams and the birdsong of the Karkonosze National Park.

Beneath the slopes surrounding Jelenia Struga, historic Adits have been preserved. One of them houses the Underground Radon Inhalatorium – the only one in Poland and one of five in the world. Radon balneology centers can be found, besides our native one, in Austria, Germany, Italy, and the United States.

At Jelenia Struga MEDICAL SPA in Kowary, not only health is strengthened, but also restored using effective methods, including natural radon inhalations conducted in the Kowary Adits – a unique underground post-mining adit in a historic uranium ore mine.

In the distinctive atmosphere of the charming adit, in a comfortable position and with protection against excessive cooling (special cloaks), you have the opportunity to breathe cool and humid air, free from pollutants and allergens, containing small amounts of radon.

Characteristics, radon effects

Radon (Rn-222) is a noble gas, colorless, odorless, heavier than air, naturally released in tunnels from rocks and underground mine waters. Radon has a beneficial effect on musculoskeletal disorders, bronchial asthma, and also increases the body's resistance. The effect of radon on the vessel walls causes their dilation, which lowers blood pressure and increases the blood flow to many organs.

Radon is quickly absorbed into the respiratory tract, accumulates in endocrine glands and vessel walls, and the alpha radiation it emits increases the secretion of many hormones such as cortisone, pituitary thyrotropic hormone, testosterone, and thyroid hormone.

Action

It does not damage tissues but causes increased cell activity and their revitalization. It stimulates all vital processes and makes the body regenerate as if replacing worn-out parts with new ones. How does radioactivity, which causes widespread fear, heal? Well, it all depends on the dosage.

Radon treatment is carried out in accordance with the requirements of speleotherapy. In the modernly equipped interior of the inhalatorium, the content of carbon dioxide and radon is constantly monitored.

The beneficial effect of radon has been confirmed in experimental studies and in the treatment of patients. It does not cause side effects – long-term practice in similar centers in Austria, Germany, and the United States has proven this.
